Abstract

Pastors must develop a specific motivation and fitness program for themselves. The purpose of this paper is to assess the demographic of protestant pastors, and provide the correct motivation for them using the Disconnected Values (Intervention) Model as created by Anshel. Pastors work sedentary jobs, and tend to have a higher rate of obesity and thus have an increased risk of diseases related to obesity. The Disconnected Values Model can motivate better physical weight training, flexibility, and exercise plans in pastors. Pastors can glorify God with their bodies as they understand the importance of the body. There would be an inconsistency in their values if they did not adhere to this.  Additionally, food can become a functional God for some pastors. This is a clear violation of the pastor’s value of having no other God but the one true God. This paper demonstrates a motivational method to increase fitness, as to assist physicians and personal trainers with pastor clients.
